Welcome to Kristine’s Blog, the Page Turner!

AUGUST HOURS: Sunday + Monday, 12-5; Tuesday, closed; Wednesday through Saturday, 10-5

This is a good time to thank some of my suppliers and retail partners. First a big shout-out to Krista Wasney of Swai Designs — she handcrafts those fused glass birds — beautiful, sweet gift or keepsake. Thanks also to Alison of Sun Kissed Customs who supplied the awesome mermaid tumblers. And thanks to Lana of Hartmont Candle Company for helping to solidify my candle addiction — Caribbean Cooler is my new favourite, along with Ginger Mandarin — oh yes, I sell them also! Lucky Stone Books has also been stocking the mesmerizing tapestries, brought in from India by Alanna of Far Out Imports. Lately, I’ve had the pleasure of selling the greeting cards by Veronica Green, which are mini works of art. A heartfelt thanks to these special suppliers.

I have a story to share about Mordens’ Chocolates, which is another favourite treat of my customers. I’ve often wondered about the small house featured on the front of Mordens’ chocolate boxes. I finally asked Mariel Morden herself and here’s what she told me:

“In regards to the house design on our boxes, when our business was founded back in 1959, it was customary to have imagery on candy packaging that reminded people of family, coziness, comfort, etc. We have kept the illustration of this house on our boxes all this time because it reminds us of the roots of our business.”

The following are the titles/authors I’m interested in purchasing/trading. If you have some hot titles you think I might be interested in, please send me an email at luckystonebooks@gmail.com

Colleen Hoover, Where the Crawdads Sing, Leigh Bardugo, Fern Michaels Kentucky Heat, Susanna Kearsley, City of Ember series, Jack Carr, Luke Delaney, Tea Cooper, Braiding Sweetgrass, Looking for Alaska by John Green, Stephanie Laurens, Sarah J Mass Thorns and Roses series, all Harry Potter, JD Robb assorted (2015+), any of the Discovery of Witches, Talisman by Stephen King in hardcover, any Stephen King, any Lucy Foley, Sheri Lapena, Lisa Jewell, Ruth Ware, Peter Swanson, Kate Ellis, Elly Griffiths and Conn Iggulden.

I can’t sign off without mentioning the weather — all of the hot days seem to be followed by crackling thunderstorms…so much water! I have to say the fall season is my favourite as I like a hoody on and a Pumpkin-spice-anything, but I won’t wish away the summer. It has been wonderful to have so many visitors at Lucky Stone Books.

Always Reading, Kristine

  1. Wonderful Kristine! We will be signing up for the GoodReads app and look forward to the days when we can gather for your book club and events. Thank you.

  2. My daughter and I usually try to make a trip to Gimli every Spring Break and though the weather wasn’t fantastic, we did make it this last Friday. It was so great to see that there is still a book store up and running and I have to say its looking great. It’s open and uncluttered and welcoming. There were plenty of great books to look through and we were even kind of enough to receive a lovely bookmark 🙂 Thank you for providing such a great shop to be the highlight of our trip to Gimli
